              Happy Columbus Day!  It has been soooo long since I wrote anything, and I felt it was about time that I began writing again. I have been blessed to be allowed to get married this summer, and so my journey of faith has taken a turn.  Along with this change I have an undeserved blessing on the way in the form of a baby boy.  God's yes is never ambiguous.   I had begun to think that I wouldn't be able to have any more children.  While I was making my peace with being a mother of one, God chose differently.                 As I cry tears of joy (and a little sorrow) at each little movement of my son, I can't help but reflect on the first time I became a mother.  I was young, in college, single, and six hours away from my family with no car or license.  When I think about how I made it through that situa...

Around this times several years ago a young wife was rushed into a Cleveland hospital to have her first born child. She did the best that she could to stay healthy and prepare herself for her new role as a mother. Her husband worked hard to try to provide for his wife and baby to come. Life wasn't easy, but they had the support of two churches and two families. As the hours went by it became clear that a natural birth was impossible. She was prepped for surgery to the dismay of all who loved them. Her skin darkened and her body swelled to dangerous proportions. The diagnosis was toximia. With two congregations in a packed waiting room the saints prayed, and the husband was asked who to save. He said his wife. His logic was that they could ha e more children, but his wife was one of a kind. The young wife went in and out of consciousness, and at o.e point had a vision of a character in the distance. Was it an angel; was it Jesus? It gave her a vision of what might come if she chose ...

Have you ever heard the phrase " you can't win for losing?" It means that every time you think you have a chance to succeed something happens to ruin it. I declare the exact opposite over my life and every person who is on this journey of faith. You can't lose for winning. Because we serve a savior who has "overcome the world already"(john 16:33) no matter what happens in this life we win. Jesus won on our behalf already. This is what is said about our victory, " Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." 1john 4:4 For whatsoever is born of God, overcome the world: and this is the victory that overcome the world, even our faith. I am so overwhelmed today with God's loving care for me.  I am so grateful, and I had to tell someone because God gave me a revelation about myself.  Today I had the privilege of receiving my two nieces for a sleepover.  I always get excited to see them, but when they arrived they were coughing and drippy.  I thought to myself, "didn't their mom say they weren't sick just yesterday?" I readied myself for what I knew would be a germy and unpleasant visit.  I pulled out the medicines and the blankets and I put on a pot of tea.  By the end of the day my son was coughing too, although I suspect they are sympathetic rather than symptomatic.  Three little coughers laid down to sleep in my room.  One began to cough so badly that the medicine I gave her reappeared on my sleeve, but with the help of grandma she was able to get back to sleep. Not long after that her little sister began to cough in her sleep to the point where she brought back up all of her...

        I recently was getting my son ready for school so quickly that I forgot to look before I put the first food I could reach in my mouth. He had left part of his cereal uneaten, and I was fortunate to be the benefactor of his poor appetite. For medical reasons I won't go into I had also given my son some ketchup which he happily spooned down before getting on his bus. I hadn't noticed that some of the ketchup had dropped into his uneaten cereal when I took a huge bite into my breakfast surplus. Yes, as the title clearly states, my needless desperation resulted in me eating ketchup flavored breakfast cereal, and I ate it all!         The LORD gave me two revelations as I wondered what motherhood had turned me into.      One of my favorite things to do is converse with people about how their faith informs their perspective on life.  My perspective is informed by my growing relationship with Jesus Christ as well as my growing understanding of what it means to be a mother, a woman, a daughter, a sister, a business partner (I'll tell you about that a little later), a single, a minister, a minority, a student, an American, a somewhat young person, a servant, and a friend.   Along with each of these categories, my experiences within each of these areas colors my perspective too.  There are certain emotions that can be triggered with every encounter and those also inform my perspective as well. All of these things help or hinder me in interpreting life.  Do they all influence me at once, I think yes but not all equally.   If I am riding a bike, I make adjustments to maintain my balance, but every adjustment requires that I move away from one area to move towar...
