Don't Trust The Little Smirks
I can almost always tell when people are trying to get away with things around me. I can also tell when people are trying to get something from me. They have this weird smile, they start talking strangely, and all the while they are working their way to what they want. I found that my child is the same way. When he smirks or tries to blink at me I know he is doing something wrong or wants me to do something. Sometimes it's as small as him wanting me to give him attention, but other times it can be things like him pulling all of my clothes out of my drawers or eating a cheerio he found on the floor after breakfast. Of course there is also the look my son gives me before he defies me. This I call the "catch me if you can" look. I hate that one particularly because it normally involves running, diving, and/or pain on my part. It is unbelievable how a child knows when they are doing wrong. Of course he doesn't know all of the time when he is doing wrong and that is where my teaching skills have to kick in. Children may be innocent, but they are as guilty as sin too. Do I still love them, absolutely.
