Hope in the Journey

Many people would say that "not yet" means "no". It sounds like it.  I can't tell you how many times I have heard or said "not yet".  I can tell you that MOST of the time it has been met with complaining, and even yelling or crying. Society's desire to have everything right away has given us a negative response to waiting.  You can see evidence of this in any place where there are groups of people; the DMV (department of motor vehicles) is a prime example.  If we think about it logically though, "not yet" really means that something is on its way or that we are on our way.   "Are we there yet?"  If you were ever in a car for an extended period of time with children, then you may know the sheer annoyance of this question.  If we are still driving we obviously haven't arrived yet. My relationship with God is a lot like a father and daughter traveling the world together. Sometimes God gives me the wheel, but if I am not careful...

Just Ask for It

I have missed out on so many things in my life simply because I didn't ask for help.  Free things and opportunities have passed me by again and again.  God is working on me with this because he never intended for God's people to live completely separate of other people.  We were made in the context of family, and family exists to help everyone thrive.  If we were made to help each other than why don't we ask for help?  I can tell you that for me, asking for help feels like admitting my own weaknesses. It also carries the risk of changing my relationships.  If I finally shut down my personal pride to ask for help and I get a negative response, it might hurt our relationship. Oddly, while both of these things are valid and true, they are also hindrances to growth in every area of my life.   In this season of my life I feel like God is working on my perspective of "the ask."  I used to think that people who were constantly ask for things were se...
