Hope in the Journey
Many people would say that "not yet" means "no". It sounds like it. I can't tell you how many times I have heard or said "not yet". I can tell you that MOST of the time it has been met with complaining, and even yelling or crying. Society's desire to have everything right away has given us a negative response to waiting. You can see evidence of this in any place where there are groups of people; the DMV (department of motor vehicles) is a prime example. If we think about it logically though, "not yet" really means that something is on its way or that we are on our way.
"Are we there yet?" If you were ever in a car for an extended period of time with children, then you may know the sheer annoyance of this question. If we are still driving we obviously haven't arrived yet. My relationship with God is a lot like a father and daughter traveling the world together. Sometimes God gives me the wheel, but if I am not careful, I can get so caught up in arriving at the next destination that I push too hard on the gas, make wrong turns and miss opportunities for growth. Scripture reminds us to run patiently the race that is set before us. (see Hebrews 12:1) If we could only turn that impatience into hope, our faith journey would be so much smoother. What blessed assurance that every Christian can have if they allow God to lead and guide their life. God has guaranteed our safe arrival if we follow his narrow way. Let us just follow his navigation. Mathew 7:13-14 says
Once the route is established, one thing that I enjoy during long travels is site seeing. I love traveling by car because you don't miss any little treasures stowed away along the road. I have been to so many major landmarks in my country that it is hard for people to believe. I have also been to so many small places and met people that have changed my life forever. I never arrive at my destination exactly like I started. I learn, grow, and collect as I go. There are many things to see on this journey of faith that we are on. Don't miss the opportunities to learn, grow, and acquire things that will remind you of your journey. This can only happen when we look at the environmental changes around us and consider how those changes affect us. You can not wear the same clothes in Alaska that you wear in Hawaii. When we move from where we were to where we want to be, there is a shift that has to take place in us. We journey not to change the roads, but to better ourselves and share that with others.
