Blossoming Faith Hope and Love
1Chorintians 13:13 "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." As I asked the Lord where faith, hope, and love, which is also called charity, fit into my vision of the growing flowers of our souls he gave me a wonderful expression. Hope is the posture that we take to receive blessings from the son/sun. Faith is the stalk, stem, or maybe trunk that grows and holds us steady as we live out what we believe. Love is when we give away what we have grown. I had the most difficulty understanding how love fit into my flowering picture. In this instance love wasn't even the word used. It was called charity. God showed me that love is charity because it is giving without the requirement of a reward for ourselves. Love shows itself by how we give ourselves to others. When we give simply because we care without hidden motives that is love(charity). What if this is why Charity and Love are exchanged so much in the Bible? Love was/is about what you can give from the heart to someone else.
Hope stretches us forward toward the sun and as the Lord shines down on us and breathes his spirit into us it feeds our faith and produces fruit. When the time is right our love leads us to give ourselves away. We share our fruit with its little seeds of witness and the expectation that something beautiful will grow from those seeds. We bloom to give others the opportunity to bloom. One other thing that I am learning is that faith, hope, and charity never leave you empty. As we give ourselves away and God prunes us of the things that get in the way of our growth our faith grows wider, our hope stretches further, and our charity blossoms even more abundantly. I want to look like a flower that has been raised by God and kissed by the son.
