Chosen Ones
It is amazing to me how unaware I can be of things that are right in front of me. Almost every movie that I see or tv show that I watch or book that I read speaks to humanity's desire to be recognized. It can be seen by people searching for love and companionship, people fighting to get to the top of their careers, people writing blogs, letters, or books, even the more drastic acts of suicide, prostitution, murder. People want someone, and they usually have an idea of who that someone should be, to notice their existance and validate their worth. I can see that even in myself. I stuggle sometimes with wondering if society sees value in me. I suppose it is a pretty obvious issue for women and girls although I am sure that guys wonder the same thing but show it in different ways. It doesn't really help that people make fun of each other in some brutal ways. When I am feeling worthless or overlooked I find edification in Ephesians. I have been reading the book of Ephesians in the Bible almost ever day. In the first chapter of Ephesians it clearly states that even with all of our faults that God gave up his only begotten son Jesus Christ because that was his cost for choosing us. Why did he choose us? He chose us because he wanted us. Many people who decide to become believers think that they chose Jesus, but in reality they responded to the realization the God had already chosen them. We are each chosen by God to live on this earth and do great things that he has planned for us. God was specific about choosing us, and created us for greatness. He sent Jesus to pay the cost of our sins to ensure that we could live out our lives victoriously and return to him having left behind a legacy for someone else to pick up and carry on. God is very particular. I can see it because God tells us to be holy and perfect. This speaks to his desire for things to be just right. That being said we are all God's creations made by the creator of all things, and everything that is good and perfect comes from him. This means that we could not have been a mistake, but we were chosen with pleasure and purpose. God is pleased to present us to the world knowing the greatness that he has placed within each of us. The only catch is that when we get here we are entering a world that has been corrupted by sin and therefore our very birth brings us into corruption. This isn't something that God did to us but something that humanity chose which changed everything and brought corruption into our very beings. The only way that we can be saved from the corruption that corners each of us is by taking hold of the fact that we are created and chosen by God through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. The creator himself showed that we are worth more than any amount of money or precious metal. God will accept anyone who confesses who Jesus is and what he did for us and believes it in their heart. Not only that, but God has offered to adopt us into his original family which were the hebrew people without discrimination. We aren't any less than his other children. He gives us the same inheritance and he seals the deal with his spirit which comes to dwell within us. It's as if he changes our DNA to make us his blood children. All people who accept Jesus as their savior and Lord are marked as God's children. We are no longer his creations but his family in whom he is well pleased. You see it is not so much about us choosing God as it is us accepting that he chose us. All we have to do is believe and we receive all of the priviledges of a royal heir of the Kingdom of God. We all have to choice to decline our inheritance, but it doesn't change the fact that we were chosen. Knowing that I am a chosen child of God and joint heirs with Jesus I can't help but feel better about my place in this world. I am God's pick!!!
