I'm Still Here

There is an old hymn called I'm still here.  In the churches I've been to they sing it with almost total exhaustion and I used to drag my way through the song too.  It was so depressing!!!!  If you have seen the Jerry Lewis film "The Orderly"  you could equate the attitude of the people to be that of the annoying patient who said " I guess I'll live to suffer some more."  The crazy thing is that if you listen to the words the song is actually suppose to be a song of encouragement.  The words say, "I'm still here/I'm still here/ I've made it through/And so have you/I've been through the fire/And I've been through the flood/I'm still here/Kept by his word."  As I was considering my current plight I began to realize that no matter how strange things get in my life, if I am living to complain about it then God has kept me and I am blessed.  If I can complain then what was meant to destroy me failed because I am still here.  Hallelujah!

I am not minimizing my situations or anyone's because we all go through things in our lives that are not to be ignored, but as huge as any of our issues can get God's grace is bigger. God's dominion stretches further than any of our struggles, and God's loves go on to forever.  If we are struggling then God be praised because we have not been defeated.  This is why we can glory in tribulation, because God is working for our good even in tribulations. If we can only shift our focus from the struggle to the fact that we are still here then we can be refreshed and renewed ready to stand up for our lives again.  Don't miss the big picture.  If you are able to tell others of your horrors and disappointments then praise God because those horrible things weren't enough to end you.  You're still here kept by his word.  It is God's very word that kept you alive when it didn't make since anymore.  It is God's word spoken over you that sustained you when you should have broken, and it is God's word that has allowed you the opportunity to hide in him.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.
