What I mean when I say "I live for God"

Imagine if your favorite celebrity were to walk up to you and say, "I have a special job for you to do.  Will you follow me?  I'll take care of you." Many of us would jump up and say yes without even considering our circumstances or what we might have to give up.  

 A lot of people who are considering Christianity get hung up when others talk about living for God.  To some this means following a set of rules and forcing yourself to live a life of denial and boredom, but God is not boring and he certainly isn't interested in forcing people to do anything. (If God wanted to force us into anything then he wouldn't have bothered to give us choice).  God wants us to try him out and find out that he is greater than we ever imagined.  It is about excitement and anticipation. God wants us to live for him like we "live" for our next visit to the mall or our next scoop of ice cream or our next vacation.  When we choose to follow Christ he leads us by example and by his spirit to amazing places that we never even thought that we could go in our lives.  He causes us to be better than we ever thought we could be and do more than we ever thought that we could.  All we have to do is make ourselves available and follow his lead. God is the biggest celebrity that ever was or will be.  Get excited because he wants you!!!

When I say I live for God I mean that I am excited when he wakes me up at night to talk to me.  I love that tingling feeling I get when his spirit moves me.  I love when he sends me a word in the Bible or through someone else or even out of my own mouth (now isn't that a trip!)  I look for God to do miracles in my life not because I want to feel special (although I do need God to remind me that I am special to him sometimes), I look for God to do amazing things so that I can brag on him.

 I know the God that I serve, and it is wonderful when things happen that I can use as references for his amazing ways.  I want to shock people when I tell them that God saved me when I was hit by a car and I didn't have a scratch.  I want people to know that God protected me from a man who tried to kidnap me.  I want people to know that he protected me when I attempted to walk to my grandparents' house and it got dark and a deer almost trampled me.  I want people to know that even before I knew I was pregnant that God had family members storing up baby clothes, furniture, and toys for "no reason".  I want people to know that God has preserved my name when people tried to slander me, and I want people to know that his mercy and grace are worth having.  Taste and see that the Lord he is good. 

I live for the moments when God shows himself to me. I believe the greatest miracle of God is not how he changes the world but how he changes me.  God has given me grace to hold my tongue when I would normally become very abrasive.  Thank you Jesus!  God has given me the power to say no to men that I otherwise might have said yes to.  Thank you Jesus!  God has given me the spirit to forgive people who I never thought that I could forgive.  Thank you Jesus!  God is teaching me how to love myself.  Thank you Jesus! God is stretching me so that I can become what he already sees in me.  I am smitten with him.

So I find that there are certain things that when done make for a much better day than when I don't do them.  As a single mom sometimes it gets hard to do these and then everything seems to be a bigger ordeal for me. Mr. Sandman Where are you?

I was told that by 6 months old or so my son should be effectively sleeping through the night. Well, Tomorrow is his first birthday and he has already woken up twice...make that three times because he woke up while I was writing this! I really miss sleeping and I want my little one to get sleep too. He wakes up every two or three hours to nurse. I try to get him to go back to sleep, but a baby who is standing up and pulling on the side of his crib isn't going back to sleep easily. I sing, swing, shush , and attempt to swaddle, but he won't have any of it. Sometimes I let him cry his way back to sleep, but it only last for about a half hour before he reawakens more determined than before. The screaming wears on my nerves and the lack of sleep is wearing on my days. Some days I think "This is it. This is my life now. I have a dream

I used to dream all the time that I was witnessing to people.  People would ask me questions and I would begin to speak about the goodness of the Lord, and how Jesus was the solution to all of their problems or desires.  I feel anointed to be having those dreams again.  Maybe someone needs these words.  I talk about my journey of faith, but maybe you haven't begun that journey yet so let me tell you about Jesus.  Jesus is the Christ, the savior of the world, the messiah, the only begotten son of God.  Jesus is God in humanity.
