Jesus The Archer(author) and Finisher of our Faith

Could you imagine being an archer?  It would take a lot of time and focus to become a great archer, but even then we would sometimes miss.  Sin is defined as missing the mark.  When we make a decision or have a thought that isn't perfect, then we miss the mark and it is sin.  Unfortunately for all of us God's standard is perfection, and to miss the mark once is enough to render us imperfect and ineligible for a life with him.  Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."  Fortunately for all of us Jesus Christ came to be perfect for us.  Jesus has covered our scores with his own, and he never misses the mark.  This does not mean that we stop trying to hit the bulls-eye, it just means that when we miss God allows us to see how far off we were and then he wipes out our score in exchange for Jesus' perfection.  All we have to do is say that we will take it.

Wherefore  seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:1-2

Who is covering you? Before we even shoot, Jesus has already finished the job of perfection for us simply because we believe in him to be who he said he is, the son of God who died on the cross for us and rose again three days later.  This same son of God was tempted in every way that we are and yet was without sin. This same Son of God that lives today in Heaven on the right hand of God interceding on the behalf of all of those who receive his gift of salvation.  If you haven't made the decision yet I beg you to consider the love that God has for you and his perfect plan for salvation.  Who wouldn't choose eternity with God and the covering of Jesus Christ in exchange for a lawful yet impossible standard?

Romans 10:9-10 say that  "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
