Quick Perspective Check
Hey everyone. As I thought about my commitment to embrace a more godly temperament with my son I started to count how many times I've messed up today. Thank God that the Lord stopped me in my tracks. I suddenly felt the urge to count the number of times Jesus won for me instead. Counting failures is a sure fire way to depression and true failure which is quitting. I am not saying that I won't measure myself, but I am saying I should measure my progress and praise God for another chance when I blow it. It takes the pressure off of me and puts it on the love that God has shared with me. That love enables me to do better. Even in school they give you a score of what you've gotten right (if they are a good teacher).
It used to really bother me when teachers would only mark (-3) or whatever on an assignment. It was as if all the work that I got right didn't count. Imagine how Jesus might feel when we focus in on how flawed we are when Jesus died for all of that already. Jesus gave us his perfect score, and yet we tend to put that score aside to notice all the erase marks on our paper from where he got rid of our wrong. How different would our lives be if we praised Jesus for his sucess in us in spite of our failures, and never dwelled on our weaknesses. The Bible says that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. We won't ever measure up on our own, but with God anything is possible. We can not negate the work of Jesus on our behalves. We can only accept it or reject it. Even when I fail God wants me to accept the success of Jesus on my behalf and continue on as a winner.
I've heard that you get what you expect. If we were to expect the success of God in our lives no matter what then that would mean great things for all of our godly endeavors. I choose to put my mind, my time, and my faith on the success that I already have through Christ. I received the grace of God when I fussed at my son today. Praise the Lord. When I keep my cool next time I'll show the glory of God.
When you really think about the Christian life it's a story of grace and glory. Grace for our imperfections and glory for our obedience.
