I was talking with the Lord and reading a little book of the promises of God when he told me that there is nothing that I can do to deserve relief from my struggles and hardship. I can do everything "right" and things could still be wrong. As I looked at the promises I noticed that almost all of them were different ways of instructing God's people to come to him. Over and over again in the Bible scripture tells us to come to the Lord, to follow the Lord, to look to the Lord. Why not just come? I talk a bit about the reality that God has our every circumstance covered in my blog called "What's Already Done?" See the link here.

However, what I want to talk about today is why people don't come. It bothers me that my idea of perfect doesn't cut it. I can't do anything perfect because I must first be perfect, but God can do perfection through me. Therefore I can't do anything perfectly in my own power, but God can use me to do perfect things because he is perfect himself. My issue is sometimes shame and disappointment at the reality that apart from God I can do nothing right. Nothing? It just doesn't seem right to me. Am I really that broken? The answer is, sadly, yes. People, including me don't want to come to the Lord for our answers and salvation because we don't want to admit that we don't have the answers ourselves. It hurts to realize our fallability, but this doesn't change the truth. We need Jesus, and all he says is come to me and I'll give you the answers you need and the love that you want. So what are we waiting for? This isn't just a call for the unsaved, but every Christian who is walking in their own power, who is exhausted and disillusioned by their own failure to produce what only God can create in us.
