Push It!
I am a born athlete, and my body reminds me of that whenever I haven't worked out in a while. I was doing some swimmer kicks earlier while and realized that I can do a lot more than I thought. I started out thinking okay I'll do twenty, and then I said "I can do five more." Then I said "just another five." I ended up doing thirty extra kicks before I realized that my limit wasn't what I thought. I didn't realize it before, but I set my limits too low for myself in almost every area.
One area that I know that I need to actively fight this mindset is in my walk with the Lord. It's easy to look at scripture that talks about how to respond to life situations and think "it's too much for me." The truth is that responding according to the word of God in spite of how we feel is too much for us if we are working under our own power, but we aren't. God have given us his spirit and if we'd just push the envelope with our love, forgiveness, patience, and faith amazing things can be accomplished.
Athletically, the way to get better is to push yourself. I did four sports in school, and in every single one my coaches asked me to go as far, as long, as fast, and as hard as I could. This is called conditioning. Like any good coach, they gave me time to restore myself afterwards, but then we would go again. As the practices got harder and longer, I realized that I could do more than I thought. When I pushed myself I got better. I started to see fatigue as a sign that I was doing the right thing, and I worked my body and mind into it's best shape ever.
Today I challenge myself in the same way in other areas of my life. I am working out my mind, my time, my faith, and my finances to condition myself to be more like the kingdom woman God invisions. God sees us in perfect condition and guides us with his word to get us to where he already sees us. God believes in us and has set the standard high. God says to be perfect and holy. We can't get around it, and his word is not to be ignored. I find that when I see myself defeated it happens, but when I take a chance and give my all God honors that. Push it people of God and watch God carry you the rest of the way. The race isn't given to the swift or the strong, but to him that endures to the end. I believe that it is at the end of ourselves that God shows us his glory. Now that's living.
