Power Struggle
All of my life, people have ridiculed me for being so "good", " "innocent", or "naive". It was as if being these things made me somehow weak or less than those who were bad, guilty, or bitter. As I looked around I saw that it wasn't just me who was attacked with this lie, but every single child who tried to do what they learned was right. I know now that it was an attack not by people but by evil in an attempt to keep all of us from fulfilling the word of God; to keep us from proving that the wisdom of the word of God is profitable for correction, reproof, instruction in righteousness.
So, what did these misguided people offer me as an alternative to Godly wisdom...nothing. They pretended to be my friends, but laughed and planned behind my back. They tried to get me to do wrong at every turn and laughed at every failure. They basically told me my life was a lie and I was a fool. They accused me of thinking that I was better than them but openly acted as if their ungodly knowledge made them better than me. These imps came in the form of children and adults. They attempted to tear away my biblical foundation and leave me to self destruct.
When I realized this, it made me so angry I became a vigilante. I fought anyone who tried to turn the innocent into victims, verbally and physically. I didn't realize that taking this stance wouldn't make me strong. They respected me when I hurt people, but that kind of "respect" was not what I needed. They tried to bring me down and they were almost successful because I was acting on my feelings instead of the God's word. I had ignored the word of God which said to be wise as a serpent AND harmless as a dove. I was not overcoming evil with good. Instead I was the bully of bullies, and I started to like it. This is a struggle I deal with to this day because I bothered to bend my ear to people who wanted nothing more than to dirty me up in every way that they could. I lost sight of who I was for a time and had gained nothing. I felt weaker than ever. I wasn't who I wanted to be nor was I who I was taught to be. I became some sort of hybrid weapon, literally beating people with my Bible. (Yes I became so frustrated that I brought a Bible to school and hit people with it.)
People went through all this trouble to debunk my life, but what they didn't realize is that my presenting me with lies, it pointed me towards the truth. You see, the Bible calls Satan the Prince of lies, but lies can't exist without the truth.
As I began to critically look at the lies that society kept trying to get me to believe, I developed some logical questions, "what is true power and where does it come from?" One great thing about being a child of God is that he loves it when we ask him questions. I have much to learn and implement, but here is what I've discovered so far:'
1. God has all power, and for anyone to have power God has to give it to them. According to scripture, God gave power to the good and the evil.
* Job 1:12 God gives Satan power concerning Job
*Mathew 10:1 Jesus gives power to his disciples over evil spirits and sickness
*Mathew 28:18 Jesus declares that all power has been given to him
other examples include: luke 10:19, John 17:2, John 19:11, 2 Peter 1:3, Revelation 6:4-8, Revelation 9:3, Revelation 13:5,7&8.
2. Christians have power through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
* Acts 1:7-9 Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit is coming to bring them power
* Ephesians 6:17 refers to the word of God as the Sword of the Spirit
other examples include 2 timothy 1:3, Acts 2:37-39, Romans 1:4, 2 Peter 1:3
God gave every Christian two things for their journey of faith, his spirit and his word. These things are all that we need to see his power and glory in our lives. In his word he promised that we would reap (gather our reward) if we didn't get weary of doing good. God doesn't lie, and when we operate according to his word and his spirit we become witnesses for God. For our sake and for his, God shows himself powerful on this world. God rewards our choice to submit to his kingdom ways, and as long as we continue in his way, there is nothing this world can do to debunk us. No weapon formed against us will prosper. That sounds like the power that I want in my life. The only way that evil gets the upper hand is if we give it to them by believing them more than we believe God. Our power is in our faith. Put your trust in God and watch true power in action.
