Do you Agree?

One of the amazing things that I heard this past month while serving on the teaching ministry at my church was the idea that we have to come into agreement with Holy Spirit in order to operate in the power of God.  I knew this intellectually, but for some reason there was a freshness on it when I remembered what a fellow member of the ministry had said. This statement about agreement with God coupled with a good look at the Lord's Prayer and I was brought back from the brink this past weekend.
Recently I was feeling overwhelmed with a sense of both urgency and indignation.  I was desperate to accomplish some of the things that I had been talking about for months and even years.  I was angry at how I had been sidetracked, and yesterday I realized that I have gotten so backed up that I didn't know what to do first, second, or third.  As tears welled up in my eyes and my husband tried his best to put out the proverbial fire coming from my head, I realized that I had missed it.  I was in a losing fight between my will and God's will for my life.  I felt powerless to accomplish anything in my life because I was working in my own strength in an effort to force my will on God.  How did I get to this place and how do I get out of it?
My only hope for peace and true success is to accept God's will for my life and get in order. My greatest and worst moments of my life have hinged on my ability to receive and follow instructions.  Sometimes in my impatience, I have the desire to ignore instructions and figure things out as I go.  This has cost me time, money, opportunities, and credibility. My level of success depends on my ability to come into agreement with the author and finisher of my faith, God.
My journey of faith has been mapped out from the beginning of time by the all powerful, all loving, and all knowing God of creation.  My purpose is not to pave the way, but to simply walk where God has already paved the way for me.  He instructs me where to go and where to not go.  He warns me of danger zones.  He tells me when and where to rest, eat, and take note.  In order to reach my destination and learn the lessons that have been planned for me, I must come into agreement with God by following his directions.
What does it mean to agree with God?  It means recognizing his word (The Bible), believing his word, and then following his word on a daily basis.  Our choices prove what we believe and no amount of lip service will get us closer to our destination.  Jesus puts it this way:

Matthew 21:28-32King James Version (KJV)
28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

God has given each of his children a portion in his will, but we must live our lives in a way that shows that we are in agreement with God's will before we can receive all that God desires for us to be, do, and have. Do you agree?
