For Glory!!
I love the Olympic Games because it is a great opportunity to see the glory of God in how he created his greatest accomplishment, humanity. As I reminisce on
labor and delivery of my firstborn son, I think about how I stayed up all night with contractions while watching the Olympics. I was enthralled with how many sports there were to watch. I especially chuckled a little at the speed walking competition as grown men swayed their way to victory. It is amazing the things that people will do for glory; to make their mark in history. I am not surprised or even upset at man's desire to seek out glory. It's a part of our being because we were created to bring glory to God. In order to bring glory, you have to first take hold of it. With every Olympic record and show of skill, God is glorified as the most masterful artist and architect of mankind. We are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works preordained by God that we should walk in them according to Ephesians 2:10. God created us to be a amazing, and it is our duty to live to bring him glory. We live to worship God and to bring him glory. We exist to illuminate the creativity, the character, and the heart of God. This is the overarching purpose of everything in creation. This revelation came to me through a children's lesson that I was studying to teach. The lesson states that we live to worship God. It highlights the idea that everything was created to work a certain way, including people. For anyone stressing about their purpose in this world, it is simply to cause the world to recognize who God is. When I look at nature I see God the artist, and when I look at newborn babies I see God the gracious. Everything in this world points to God, especially humanity which was created in his own image. We are God's way of making himself known in an obvious way. When we accept salvation through Jesus, we must become conscious of our reflective responsibilities. As we fumble through this life with our newly found worldview, it is as if God is directing us to wipe away the fog on the mirror that is our lives. The word of God washes away the residue on us so that we may better reflect the awesomeness of our God. Because God is awesome it is natural that his creation should be a reflection of that. As I watch the rest of this Olympics, I can't help assessing my life to see if I am representing God well. Am I operating in the fullness of who God has created me to be, or am I just doing enough to qualify to wear his uniform? I am going to live the rest of my life like a kingdom Olympian, who is living for glory, not for myself, for God.
