Is This God?

Often times I will stall my life when it came to making important decisions.  When I have a fork in the road, I weigh the pro's and con's of each path set before me, and I look for the wisdom of God to help me make the right turns on my life journey.  There is a scripture that says that "my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" John 10:27.  I find that my greatest triumphs and biggest failures have been directly proportioned to my willingness to get quiet before God and listen for his instruction.

If we can not discern the voice of God, it is not for his lack of speaking but our lack of hearing.
John 10:27 says that God's sheep know his voice, and this means that God talks in ways that we can hear him.  God has not left us without any help to walk this journey of faith that we are on.  He has left us his word and his holy spirit to teach us, guild us, comfort us, and convict us. It is up to us to study and obey God's word and yield to his spirit in every matter in our lives.

When I find myself confused (which is not the work of God)  I know that it is time to clean out my spiritual ears and turn down the volume of the world.  I sit down with my Bible and hear what God wants to say to me.  This is why devotional time is so important.  It is time set aside to hear from God, as well as speak to him. I have had some triumphant moments in devotion and some devastating moments where I ignored God's calling of me.  As I get to know him more and more, my senses are identifying his voice.

Because we live in a world that was made in the image of God, sometimes messages can get mixed up if I'm not careful to listen with a careful ear.  There are things in this world that sound like God, but aren't from him. This issue is addressed in 2 Timothy 3.  Scripture says there are people who have a form of Godliness but deny God.  It says to turn away from that.  Everything that sounds good isn't good for us.  When I am unsure if it is God leading me to make certain decisions I ask myself "does this idea go against God's word and power?"  If the answer is yes then I know it's not God. If the answer is no then I ask myself "Is this in line with who God has called me to be?"  If the answer is yes, then I am likely to go with the flow.  If the answer is no then I lovingly check for other options.

Remember that God is NOT the author of confusion(1 Corinthians 14:33), and God has NOT given us the spirit of fear(2Timothy 1:7).  If you are confused and afraid it is not God.
