Is This God?

Often times I will stall my life when it came to making important decisions.  When I have a fork in the road, I weigh the pro's and con's of each path set before me, and I look for the wisdom of God to help me make the right turns on my life journey.  There is a scripture that says that "my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" John 10:27.  I find that my greatest triumphs and biggest failures have been directly proportioned to my willingness to get quiet before God and listen for his instruction.      If we can not discern the voice of God, it is not for his lack of speaking but our lack of hearing. John 10:27 says that God's sheep know his voice, and this means that God talks in ways that we can hear him.  God has not left us without any help to walk this journey of faith that we are on.  He has left us his word and his holy spirit to teach us, guild us, comfort us, and convict us. It is up to us to study and...

John 3:16 - The Story of Love

Image
This made me cry, but it helps me to remember how significant the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was.  If he had chosen to live, we all would have been doomed to eternally be separated from God. He died so that we might live.  This is the greatest act of love that anyone could do.

About The Walls

Image
Walls have varying purpose including protection, support, warning, and intimidation.  Walls are  not malleable, they either stand or fall.  Walls are meant to make the statement, "Do not pass." When I think about the walls of Jericho and how the obedience of God's people brought the walls down without a single act of violence, I am encouraged.       For seven days people walked silently around the walls of Jericho, and on the seventh day they walked around it seven times and then shouted.  At that moment it didn't matter how tall the walls were, how thick they were, how fortified they were.  Those walls could not stand up to the faith and obedience of God's people.  This shows me that it is the will and the way of God to work miracles for the people who call on his name in faith. Active faith caused the walls of Jericho fall down at the shouts of God's people.    ...

But They'll Laugh at Me!

Image
I was helping my son get ready for school this morning when I noticed his shirt was a little wrinkled.  We had a few minutes before his bus came so I told him to hand me his shirt while he brushed his teeth.  My son handed me the shirt reluctantly and then insisted that he couldn't go to school without his shirt because the kids at school would laugh at him.  He was so concerned about being laughed at that it took me by surprise.  As I handed him his shirt and rushed him off to the bus, I felt a small seed of devastation in my heart.  Are kids at school laughing at my son? My son has some learning differences  that cause him to speak and respond a little differently than others might find appropriate.  He is very emotional, demonstrative, busy, and easily frustrated.  On a good day, people might just write off his inattentiveness and assertiveness as "kids being kids", but on his bad days I get comments about putting him on medi...

Taking Low

Image
As I look back at this past week I've noticed something about myself that I am concerned with. I have been very impatient and angry. Yes, I have had reasons, but my entitlement didn't help me or my situations at all. I decided to pray and be quiet for most of the weekend until I could figure out how to resolve my attitude. I reminded myself that joy and peace are God's will for me, and this morning these scriptures was in my Bible app: Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. Proverbs 3:34 KJV When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 KJV For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Psalms 149:4 KJV There was scripture after scripture talking about humility and meakness. I initially felt awful, but it was quickly followed with reassurance. God is telling me to take low, not because I am wrong, but because he is God. The words of a visiting pastor from a fe...

For Glory!!

Image
I love the Olympic Games because it is a great opportunity to see the glory of God in how he created his greatest accomplishment, humanity.  As I reminisce on labor and delivery of my firstborn son, I think about how I stayed up all night with contractions while watching the Olympics. I was enthralled with how many sports there were to watch.  I especially chuckled a little at the speed walking competition as grown men swayed their way to victory.  It is amazing the things that people will do for glory; to make their mark in history.  I am not surprised or even upset at man's desire to seek out glory.  It's a part of our being because we were created to bring glory to God.  In order to bring glory, you have to first take hold of it.  With every Olympic record and show of skill, God is glorified as the most masterful artist and architect of mankind.  We are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works preordained by God that we shou...
